Hyperbaric Chamber Treatment
Hyperbaric chamber treatment is a form of treatment that uses pressure and high amount of oxygen. These two are elevated above the normal atmospheric pressure and oxygen level of 21%. The treatment is done is a specialized structure, which is the chamber. There are several chambers, which vary in size and sophistication. Regardless of the variations, they all serve the same role, to treat various sicknesses by use of oxygen and pressure. The form of treatment done under this phenomenon is known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Even though the concept might sound too sophisticated and complex, it is a safe and very effective form of treatment.
What diseases, illness and sicknesses are treated through this method? Well, there are number of ailments and conditions that are treated through this method. The most common condition managed through this condition is decompression, a condition developed through scuba diving, high mountain climbing…etc. others include gas embolism, which is presence of gas bubbles in the blood, chronic ulcers, diabetes, radiation wounds and neurological diseases. There include both conditions which have been proven to be healed through this therapy while others are still in preclinical stages. Diabetes for example is in the preclinical stage while chronic ulcers have been healed through this therapy.
How does this method work? As earlier indicated, the two primary elements in this therapy are oxygen and pressure. The working depends on the condition being treated. Note: the two elements can be adjusted to the required levels. In some cases, the amount of oxygen can be up to three times more than the atmospheric oxygen. For example, in high mountain climbing, oxygen is of critical importance. Oxygen plays a very primary role in growth and development. When the increased amount of oxygen is breathed in, it is transported through blood all round the body. The presence of blood stimulates the production of growth hormones, which guide in cell division. This is the way chronic ulcers are healed through hyperbaric chamber treatment.
In the case of gas embolism, oxygen and pressure are both primary. The high amounts of pressure help to compress capillaries, which in turn presses its contents, among them, the blood bubbles. With elevated amounts of oxygen available, there is increased amount of oxygen breathed in. note: the bubbles in the blood contain mostly nitrogen. When compressed and with high oxygen, the nitrogen is released and the bubbles replaced with oxygen through diffusion…and because oxygen dissolves in blood, the bubbles are “eaten†away.
However, hyperbaric chamber treatment is not for everyone. Doctors will advice against this form of treatment if, you have cardiac diseases, upper respiratory infections, high fevers, CO2 retention with emphysema, you have had chest surgery, you have malignant diseases, and for expectant mothers among others. It is highly advised that you come clean on all these issues and don't hold on any just because you want to experience the effectiveness of the therapy. It has been shown there are some who conceal info concerning these matters. The reason given for this is the desire to heal through hyperbaric chamber treatment.
